GOODBYE – HELLO

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths”

Walt Disney

Sadly we’ve said goodbye to our beach house in Gulf Shores. They’re no longer renting the month of March to Snowbirds. Not a fan of packing up just to move a few miles away and then unpack again. Especially knowing that in a month we’ll do it all again when we leave to go back home to Prince Edward Island. But we did organize our packing so some can remain packed, hopefully making the end of March packing easier and quicker. I shouldn’t complain. We’re very lucky to be here.

And we moved into a condo in Orange Beach (a resort city right next to Gulf Shores) for March. A few hiccups with entry codes and the wifi password but nothing that was major. All moved in.

A totally new experience.

It’s a beautiful condo. More space than we need. Four bedrooms, three baths, a large open concept kitchen/living area, and a balcony overlooking Terry Cove.

Some things never change no matter where you are.

The owner called me on Friday and said there was an issue with the hot water heater, and minor issues with two of the toilets. He called a plumber and set up an appointment for Monday. Plumber called and said he’d be here at 11:00. You guessed it. Arrived at 12:25. Sound familiar? But at least he did arrive. He got the work done and we now have fixed toilets and lots of hot water. At least it was an overcast day so it was fine to stay at home.

But we miss the beach house. Sitting on the deck watching and listening to the waves was one of our daily joys.

I’d been viewing our covered balcony as a negative. Having a roof means not getting a lot of sun. And I love the sun. Oh do I. But today I realized having a covered balcony is also a positive. Late this afternoon it was raining. Quite a downpour. As the rain was coming straight down we were able to sit on the balcony and enjoy the rain without getting wet. Turning a negative into a positive. I do try.

Some other positives:

  • It’s a shorter drive to our gym.
  • Lots of new restaurants in this area for us to try.
  • We have large whirlpool tub. Our beach house had a tiny bathtub.
  • There’s a pool with a lovely sitting area overlooking the cove, if it’s ever warm enough to use it.
  • New adventures.
