George Bernard Shaw
“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.”
On our numerous grocery shopping excursions we have seen items that were new to me. Some I had heard of before but have never seen on the shelf. I’m posting some today and will continue to share more with you as I discover them.
Down here probably once a week we buy eggs. Now I’d previously heard of quail eggs but I’d never seen them in the grocery stores. They are so small. Teeny tiny. Probably because on PEI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Edward_Island I usually get my eggs from Kool Breeze Farms. https://koolbreezefarms.com/ Missing their excellent eggs. And their double yolkers. And I had to laugh when I saw the Vegetarian Eggs. My first thought was “how can eggs be vegetarian”. Silly me. In my mind I was confusing vegetarian with vegan and thinking eggs aren’t vegan. Guess my brain wasn’t working that day. Vegetarian eggs are eggs produced by hens fed by an entirely vegetarian diet consisting of grains and soy products. Who knew. Well I’m sure lots of you knew but not me. And here’s a question for you. How do they keep the hens from eating insects?

When out dining I’ve had to learn to ask for hot tea as sweet or unsweet iced tea is very popular. Thus the Iced Tea picture here. And again I’d heard of pork cracklins but never saw them on the grocery shelf at home.

The next two we have tried.
Richard has fallen in love with biscuits and gravy. That’s his fave when we eat out for breakfast. Saw this can on the shelf so we bought it and decided to try at home. He really enjoyed it. I made biscuits with my gluten free biscuit mix from Duinkerken Foods. https://www.duinkerkenfoods.com/ I brought some of their products with me. Super products.
These tomatoes were so good. The package says ‘plum like sweetness’ and they weren’t fooling. They were sweetly delicious.

Now we have fig bars at home but I loved the slogan “This Little Figgy Went To Market” so I just had to include it. How cute is that. I liked the concept of pecan shortbread so it’s here too. We may have them at home. Not sure.

Pigs Feet. Yes you read that correctly. Again I’d heard of them but they were new to me in a grocery store. Hmmm. I wonder. Maybe at home I don’t pay enough attention to what’s on the shelf. Probably. I am not the most observant person. I do remember many, many, many years ago travelling through the province of Quebec https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec with my in-laws and stopping at a restaurant where my father-in-law ordered pig’s knuckles. He was super excited as he always liked to have them when in Quebec. Have to admit I was grossed out.

Now the next pictures aren’t food items but I had to include them as I completely floored by them. Unbelievable. It’s the door to the Bodenhamer Recreation Centre. https://www.gulfshoresal.gov/1162/David-L-Bodenhamer-Recreation-Cente Now at home we all know the no smoking symbol and see it everywhere. But a no guns symbol? It’s also on the door to the library. What? I repeat that. What? You have to tell people not to bring guns into a gym and a library? Scary. What a world we live in.

Seeing this symbol regarding guns inspired me to do a Google search about guns in Alabama and I discovered this. I don’t know your thoughts on this subject but I find it extremely disturbing.
Alabama on Jan. 1 will become the latest state to allow people to carry a concealed handgun without getting a state permit that requires a background check. The new state law ends the requirement for a person to get a permit to legally carry a concealed handgun in public…The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, which lobbied for the Alabama legislation, said in April that 25 states allow permitless carry.

One of my sons was a huge Weird Al fan when he was young and the two of us went to see him perform in a small venue in a Charlottetown hotel many years ago. What a super show. Great performer. Great memory. So I just had to use this song.
Eat It – Weird Al Yankovic
