HE’S PACKING HIS TRUNK

It’s hard to believe. We’re packing the Jeep today and leaving tomorrow. (Of course it’s snowing) And when I say we’re packing the Jeep what I really mean is he’s packing the jeep. Smart move Debi. That’s a much better plan. I’m excited and antsy at the same time. I know this may seem bizarre but I’ve actually never been away from my home for this length of time. Well, of course, I was away when I attended university but I was young then and that was much different. I guess it’s about time I became adventurous.

Into the trunk: two jackets, two suitcases, a plastic tub, two kit bags, two yoga mats, a car safety kit, and a picnic basket with a thermos of hot water, tea bags, brown sugar packets, two cups, protein bars and some small dishes with disposable cutlery and serviettes. Hopefully we’re prepared.

We’re leaving from Borden, PEI, Canada.  http://www.borden-carleton.ca which is on the Northumberland Strait between PEI and New Brunswick and heading for Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA on the Gulf Coast of Alabama. https://www.gulfshores.com  Google tells me it’s a 32 hour drive and 3246 km. Our plan is to take four days and three nights to get there. We can’t get into our rental until 4:00 on Jan. 1, 2019 so we should have plenty of time. Of course it all hinges on the weather. Fingers crossed.

The online picture of our rental home for the next three months looks fabulous. Two water views. It is on the gulf side of the beach but the other side of the house looks at the Little Lagoon. Two water views and direct access to the beach. What more could we ask for.

Of course all we’ve seen are online pictures. Therein lies the anxiety. As neither Richard nor I have ever done this before we are naturally skeptical and nervous about what will actually be the reality when we arrive. But we decided to take a leap of faith and go for it.

Now all we need is a good night’s sleep!
